The barque Dorina was built in Rijeka in 1870 for the co-owners brothers Luppis, Josip and Stefan Mohović and Antun Katalinić. According to the 1891 register, the barque Dorina was co-owned by Mohovich Giuseppina (Scalamera ved. Giuseppina n. Mohovich, Fiume) from Rijeka with 3 shares, Mohovich Stefano Mohovich Stefano fu Giuseppe, Fiume) from Mošćenice with 6 shares and Supancich Francesca nee Negovetich, Jablanaz with 1½ shares, Luppis Antonio Francesco fu Massimiliano, Fiume with 4 shares, Luppis Francesco fu Massimiliano, Fiume with 4 shares, Luppis Vincenzo Fortunato fu Massimiliano, Fiume with 4 shares and Corak Isidoro di Michele, Fiume with 1 ½ shares. The carrying capacity of the ship was 800 t and the tonnage was 498 nrt. According to new surveys in 1893, the tonnage of the ship was 477 grt and 442 nrt. The ship was 42.44 m long, 8.62 m wide and 5.58 m high. The ship was riveted with iron and copper. The ship was registered on 12 October 1882, with a new ship register number 3359. The ship's call sign was JDWC and she had 11 crew members without a master. This sailing ship, whose co-ownership was changed by inheritance, was run by many masters. The first was the captain (and co-owner) Antun Katalinić from Volosko (father of the poet Rikard Katalinić Jeretov), who saved the crew of the Lošinj barque Orfeo in the Atlantic in 1876 with Dorina, then Pietro Velcich and Lovro Mohović (Mohovich Lorenzo fu Giovanni, Moschienizze) Mošćenica. Mohovich Lorenzo ran the ship from 1891 to 1894 and in 1899. The ship was also run by Mariano Bartoli from Rijeka, Filip Marunić Andrin from Kostrena (St. Barbara) and Anton Stanger (Antonio Stanger di Lodovico) from Volosko. The ship sailed into New York on 20 April 1876 under the Captain Anton Katalinić, after being on the voyage for forty-one days. On that trip in a storm on the ocean, they found the Lošinj barque Orfeo sailing from Pascagoul to Liverpool. The ship was submerged in the sea to the deck level. A thirteen-year-old barque under the command of Max Premuda had a massive water flooding. Due to the big storm, there were difficulties in rescuing the crew, but the barque Dorina succeeded and brought them to New York.
