The last Rijeka fish exchange was located in a part of the factory historicist industrial production and storage building of the defunct Torpedo factory in Mlaka, Rijeka. This long ground floor house on the very sea shore was designed in 1884 and built from 1886 to 1897 by the Rijeka engineers Giacomo Zammattio and Giovanni Maria Curet by the order of the factory owner Robert Whitehead. After the closure of the Torpedo factory and the bankruptcy, the vacant spaces were given a new function and the space was remodelled for the fish trade. The interior has been converted into a fish exchange with refrigerated storage areas, a fish display strip, electrical indicators and screens showing the type, quantity and price of fish, as well as customer stands and office spaces.
