Supetarska Draga is the safest anchorage and shelter next to the windy and very busy strait of Senjska vrata. The best shelter from the bura wind is between the historic mill (mentioned as early as the 11th century) and the ACI marina in Gornja Supetarska Draga. Numerous historical stone bollards for mooring ships are still visible along this coast. Carved from solid rock, they provide the strongest possible mooring and are an important part of local cultural heritage, as they keep alive the memories of the former significance of Supetarska Draga in seafaring in the northern Adriatic. In the 19th century, there were tuna lookout posts (tunera) at nearby Vrdaškolj. At that time, fishing boats from all over the Adriatic used to sail into Supetarska Draga in search of tuna. The inhabitants of Supetarska Draga owned ships too. In statistics from 1856, six larger vessels are listed. On the Sorinj promontory at the entrance to Supetarska Draga, a small church was built in the Middle Ages. Given the role of Supetarska Draga in northern Adriatic maritime affairs, it could have only been dedicated to St Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors.
