The gajeta Lastavica KK 39, owned by Marko Mrakovčić of Krk, was built in 1958 by the boatbuilder Anton Pičuljan in Barbat on the island of Rab for Anton Badurina of Jakišnica (registration number 158 SE). The gajeta is 8 m long, 2.80 m wide and 1.07 m high, and has a gross tonnage of 8.05 t. It came into the Mrakovčić family in 1980, when it was bought by Marko’s father Ivan Mrakovčić. The boat is used for fishing and leisure and participates in traditional boat regattas across Kvarner and the Adriatic alongside municipal boats – the Bodulka (pasara), Bodul and Plav 1876 (guc), as well as the Paolina (bragoc) – and other Krk boats. The gajeta has a pronounced full-shaped hull, a relatively flat bottom, and an abrupt shift from the bottom to side planking. The underwater part of the gajeta is of a fine shape similar to that of a guc, while the deck is spacious, ending in a semicircle, especially at the stern. The bow section up to the mast is covered by a deck that continues on the sides, and there is also a small deck at the stern. Unlike a classic gajeta, this boat has a cabin and low bulwark, which is one of the features of a leut. The gajeta has a single mast, a lugsail and jib, and an inboard engine. The structural elements of the boat are made of oak, while the planking is made of spruce. The boat was renovated by master boatbuilder Franko Kraljić in the traditional shipyard in Malinska as part of the Arca Adriatica Italy-Croatia cross-border cooperation project. The renovation included the replacement of the worn-out structural parts, planking and bulwark. This gajeta is an excellent example of a restored traditional boat that will be used for sailing demonstrations and with which Krk enthusiasts will be able to present themselves at traditional boat festivals and regattas across the Kvarner region. The boat is currently in use and moored in Krk harbour.
