The first ferry in the Adriatic was commissioned on 12 April 1959 – the legendary Bodulka that connected the two shores of the Vinodol Channel between Šilo and Crikvenica. This was the first ferry service in the Adriatic. The success of the Bodulka was due to the accelerated road construction after World War Two, more intensive car traffic, and the faster development of tourism. All these circumstances, and primarily the need for a better transport connection with the islands, led to the emergence of ferry transport in the Adriatic, which has remained the main link between Croatia’s islands and the mainland up to the present day.
