It officially became operational in 1957 and was built in a strategic area between the roundabout and the port area. It is a cylindrical tower on a building and it is 31 meters high. On its summit is placed a halogen lamp that emanates a white light which is conveyed to a single point and projected from afar at a distance of 32 nautical miles in conditions of perfect visibility. Right now the lighthouse works automatically thanks to a photocell that turn it on or off. This lighthouse is the only one that has a remarkable range in Ancona and Ortona. It was built along the perpendicular that starts from the “High Country” towards the east, since before the construction of the lighthouse, the “Tower” (“Il Torrione”) and the bells of the church of “San Benedetto Martire” were the reference point for sailors.
