The monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi was commissioned by the Municipality of Cesenatico to the sculptor Tullo Golfarelli shortly after Garibaldi's death in 1882, to celebrate the person who, with the historic episode of the embarkation on 2 August 1849, had marked the city's identity. Following the inauguration of the monument, the custom of the "Feast of Garibaldi" was also started, which is still the main town festival today.
