The shipping company Adria was an ocean-going shipping company in two countries. Founded with English and Hungarian capital in 1882 in Rijeka, as a company for merchant ocean-going steamships, it employed sailors mostly from the area of Rijeka and the Hungarian part of the monarchy. After the end of the First World War and the annexation of Rijeka to Italy in 1924, the company continued to operate as an Italian company, until the beginning of the Second World War as Adria SA di navigazione marittima.
