In a broader sense, the Croatian Register of Shipping (HRB) is a public institution that performs activities related to the protection of human lives and property at sea, prevention of marine pollution and certification of quality management systems. HRB is an independent, non-profit, public good-oriented public institution that performs the following activities: classification of ships, statutory certification of ships on behalf of national maritime administrations (Administration), statutory certification of pleasure craft; certification of materials and products; conformity assessment of pleasure craft, conformity assessment of marine equipment, conformity assessment of pressure vessels, and certification / registration of the quality management system. The HRB's main office is located in Split, and the HRB regional office in Rijeka provides support to numerous entities in the maritime economy in the largest Croatian port, as well as to the shipbuilding and repair center.
