The "Garibaldi Day" is the main town festival of Cesenatico, which celebrates the historical episode that took place on 2 August 1849, when Giuseppe Garibaldi embarked on twelve bragozzi and a tartana together with his wife Anita and a few dozen followers in an attempt to reach Venice by sea, which still resisted the Austrian attack. The festival began in 1885 in conjunction with the inauguration of the monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi, and since then it has been repeated every year, on the first Sunday of August, with a program that provides - in the presence of the city authorities and the Garibaldi associations - the homage to the statue of Garibaldi, public speeches, throwing a crown into the sea with a procession of traditional boats, with fireworks in the evening. In addition, for some years now, on the occasion of the Garibaldi Festival, a gathering of traditional boats has been held which brings together the largest number of boats on the Romagna coast.
