The brig Matteo L. (Lazzarich) was built in Rijeka for Matteo Lazzarich from Trieste, Viktor Varljen from Pobra and Nadal Anton Pošćić from Volosko. The brig was sold in 1885 to Gašpar and Norbert Randić from Kostrena, Sv. Barbara. Then the brig changed her name, was deleted from the "Austrian" and entered into the "Hungarian" register with the new name Vjeran. The ship was built in 1857 at the Potpinjol shipyard. The tonnage of the ship was 420 rt, the tonnage of 343 rt was also mentioned. The dimensions of the ship were as follows: length 32.90 m, width 8.23 m and height 5.10 m. The crew of the ship consisted of twelve sailors. Shortly after the shipwreck, the ship was sold to Turkey in 1890. Those were difficult years when a large number of sailing ships ended up at berth or on sale.
