This museum is one of the museum complex (“Museo del Mare”).It was opened in 2003 and it brings together several amphorae categorized by type and history. They were recovered in the Mediterranean Sea by trawlers’ nets of the seafaring of San Benedetto del Tronto which have practiced trawling in different areas from the Aegean to the Ionian Seas, from the Tyrrhenian to the Sicilian Seas and, of course, in the Adriatic coastline during the 1900s.
The amphorae were part of Dr. Giovanni Perotti’s collection. In 1988 he donated them to the town. The museum consists of three rooms with educational purpose in order to raise awareness of the amphorae’s functions.
