The Lošinj Sails Around the World Festival is dedicated to the rich maritime and shipbuilding tradition of the island of Lošinj. The idea of the festival came from the desire to preserve, revitalize and valorize maritime heritage through the revival and presentation of the historical and cultural heritage of Lošinj maritime past, which lived its golden age from 1853 to 1884. The festival consists of workshops of traditional maritime, fishing and shipbuilding skills, and the story of the famous Lošinj sailing ships that in the second half of the 19th and early 20th century, during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, conveyed the fame of naval captains and sailors around the world. In addition to the historical part, the Festival stands out with sports events, the most famous being the regatta of traditional boats – pasara with a parade, the regatta of Lošinj Olympians and finally, the Nerezine regatta of traditional boats. The Lošinj Sails Around the World Festival is also part of the EU project of tourist valorization of the maritime, fishing and shipbuilding heritage of the North Adriatic "Mala barka 2". You should visit Lošinj at end of September, when the sun is still warm, and participate in the festivals of maritime heritage and tradition.
