Leut "Šajeta - Fatamorgana", registration number BA 1, from Bakar is 8.70 m long, 3.0 m wide, with the draught of 1.0 m. This vessel was built in Korčula in 1897, the shipbuilder is unknown. Today it is owned by Luciano Keber from Rijeka. Leut is one of the oldest vessels on our coast, dating back to the time of the Illyrians and Liburnians. Leut is a vessel of very massive build and resistant to strong wind and waves, which made her a real merchant ship of her time, but also a fishing boat for open seas. She is similar in design, construction, equipment and purpose to the gajeta, so we can consider them as related vessels. The basic differences are in the size and volume of the hull. Compared to the gajeta, the leut is her reinforced version decked along its entire length, with deck hatch covers and a smaller bulwark. Leut "Šajeta" has one mast and is rigged with a main Latin sail and a jib. The boat has a built-in Perkins inboard engine. Today's purpose of this vessel is to participate in festivals and regattas of traditional sailing boats and is used for leisure.
